October Chapter Meeting

Tuesday, October 11, 2022 -
12:00pm to 1:00pm

Topic Title
Equipping YOU to unilaterally create high-functioning teams.

Topic Summary
Have you ever worked in a toxic environment? Has that toxicity impacted the effectiveness of a team
you’ve been on?
We will explore three groups of behaviors that you can unilaterally use to help create a high-functioning
team, even within a toxic environment:
1. Vulnerability
2. Empowering Communications
3. Boundaries
I will share tangible, actionable things you can do within each category that can dramatically shift the
atmosphere within a team and increase its effectiveness.
Bring your anecdotes and your creativity, as we discuss how, as Business Analysts, we can positively
impact the teams that we’re on.

Founder / CEO Athena Consultants

Bio
Annie Rayhill is founder and CEO of Athena Consultants, a software consulting company specializing in
the definition and design of software. Several years ago, Annie looked around the IT consulting firm
where she worked and realized that there were a handful of people who were not only good at what
they did, but also empowered those around them while they did it. She wondered what would happen
if you took people with this natural inclination and gave them on-boarding training to enhance this skill,
turning empowerment into a company culture. Hence Athena Consultants was born.
Annie has had six distinct careers, many in the IT realm. Her experience includes being a systems analyst
for Fidelity Investments, where she helped define the calculation engine at the heart of the first system
in the outsourcing industry to administer defined benefit pensions. She was also the process
improvement specialist championing, defining, and implementing the product development process
used by DEKA Research and Development to develop Segway. In addition, Annie’s careers have spanned
education, teaching math at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and as the principal of a local
private elementary school.

Annie has a Master’s degree in Education, and the British equivalent of a Master’s degree in Pure
Mathematics. She has her Project Management Institute - Professional Business Analyst (PMI-PBA)
certification and is a Certified Scrum Master.
