Central Indiana Chapter Meeting - January 2020
Topic: Uncommon Techniques for BAs
As per the Uncommon League (https://theuncommonleague.com/) in their Uncommon Book of Analysis Techniques, 11 million meetings in the United States are held every day with more than 4 billion meetings occurring each year with half of the meeting attendees believing the meeting was unproductive and 2/3rds of meetings ending before decisions are made or the meeting goal was met.
Can you relate? The Business Analyst (BA) is charged with facilitating meetings/workshops, etc. and eliciting a collaborative group of folks in order to be successful. Although BAs have techniques in their toolbox, how effective are they? As a BA does your favorite technique(s) used during facilitation provide the most value while also engaging all meeting attendees and ensuring collaboration?
In consideration of Collaborative Games in IIBA’s BABOK version 3 (page 243), gamification is useful to “…encourage participants in an elicitation activity to collaborate in building a joint understanding of a problem or a solution.” In January’s chapter meeting we'll try three uncommon techniques that will engage, shake things up, and get people to think differently.
